Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Wristbands in Melbourne Give a Special Nod to Friendship Bracelet Trend

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - FEBRUARY 16: Taylor Swift fans also known as "Swifties" exchange friendship bracelets worn on their wrists as they arrive before Swift performs as part of her "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at Melbourne Cricket Ground on February 16, 2024 in Melbourne, Australia. Taylor Swift's global Eras Tour has been a cultural and economic phenomenon, breaking records and generating billions of dollars in revenue. With its massive scale and fan frenzy, the tour has cemented Swift's status as one of the most influential pop stars of the 21st century, and its impact is likely to be felt for years to come. The friendship bracelet trend popular among Swifties appears to have inspired the wristbands distributed among some Taylor Swift concertgoers in Melbourne, Australia.

Swift, 34, is performing three consecutive nights in Melbourne as part of the Australian leg of her Eras Tour. Her final concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is on Feb. 18.

One of Swift’s fan accounts reshared a fan photo on X that features a wristband from Swift’s Feb. 17 concert. The photo appears to have been inspired by the friendship bracelets Swift’s fans often wear and trade amongst each other at Eras Tour shows. “FEB 17” and “NIGHT 2” is seen spaced out along the length of the wristband in the photo.

The fan account identified the wristband as being for floor-area concertgoers. All ticketholders with arena floor access for Swift’s shows were to receive a wristband as they entered the MCG, according to the venue’s website.

While the MCG encouraged the friendship bracelet trend in some ways, the venue did impose some restrictions. Concertgoers were allowed to bring bracelets into the MCG to wear and trade with others, but they couldn’t bring them inside if the bracelets were on items like carabiners or shower curtain rings, the venue said, citing safety concerns.

The “Lover” singer’s final show in Melbourne on Feb. 18 will wrap up her three consecutive concert dates in the city. She next heads to Sydney for four dates at Accor Stadium, and will from there head to Singapore. Her shows in Melbourne and Sydney mark her first in Australia since her 2018 tour in support of Reputation.

Swift has Eras Tour concerts scheduled into December, but she’ll also be busy this spring with the release of her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. Swift announced the new project, which has an April 19 release date, while accepting her record-breaking fourth Album of the Year award at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
