Teaser Released for The Boy and the Heron
The highly anticipated film from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli will debut on the festival circuit in the coming weeks, stopping at the Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival before travelling overseas to the BFI London Film Festival.
The Boy and the Heron follows a teenage boy's psychological development through encounters with his friends and uncle. He enters a magical world with a talking grey heron after finding an abandoned tower in his new town.
The film debuted in Japan in July to a $13.2 million (1.83 billion yen) opening, becoming Studio Ghibli's biggest opening in history. It is also the studio's first film in IMAX.
This will be Miyazaki's first film since 2018. He has been responsible for many Studio Ghibli favourites over the years, including Ponyo, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle.
The full trailer for the film will land on Wednesday, but for now a short teaser has been released explaining that the film is "a semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death, and creation".
