Teen charged with battery after attempting 'RKO' wrestling move on principal

WWE's Randy Orton has inspired backyard wrestlers and older siblings across the nation to try to hit their unsuspecting victims with an "RKO" — his signature finishing move — for years. Unfortunately for one teen fan, it has resulted in his arrest after he tried to perform the move on his high school principal.

Gianny Sosa, 18, was charged with battery of Miami Southridge Senior High School's principal Humberto Miret. Sosa was released from jail on Thursday without bond after a brief court appearance, where even the presiding judge seemed to find the humor in the incident. Miret was not hurt during the smackdown re-enactment, but it was captured on video.

Roy Ugarte, the high school senior's defense attorney, said that the teen's arrest report was "hands down one of the most insane" reports he has ever read.

“Everyone knows wrestling is fake,” Ugarte said in court. “It shouldn’t have been arrestable.” Ugarte also claimed that the teenager was horsing around, and did not actually attack his principal. The story itself caused presiding judge Renatha S. Francis to smile at the absurdity of the case.

In the original video, Sosa can be seen attempting to put his arm around Miret's neck, and the principal responds by placing the student in a chokehold. Featured on the teen's Instagram page is a follow-up video with a man who appears to be Miret.

"Oh, now that I'm recording, you don't want to touch me? You don't want to hit me now?" Sosa can be heard in the video. "It's crazy, ain't it? Now that the camera has your face, you don't want to hit me. Now that the superintendent might see this, you don't want to touch me."

In the video, Miret is heard telling Sosa to put his phone down and not to film him. "I'm recording myself. Don't touch me, though," Sosa said, as Miret repeatedly touches the student's arm.

Police say Sosa was uncooperative with staff during the incident. Local 10 reports that principal Miret "was adamant about pursuing charges against the student," as per the arrest report. Sosa was charged with battery on a school official and interference with an educational institution and was released on Friday without posting bail, according to ABC13.

A representative for Miami-Dade County Public Schools did not immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s requests for comment.
