This Is What a ‘Revealing’ Prom Dress Looks Like, According to One High School

A high school student was left in tears when she was told she would be denied entry to her prom because her dress was “too revealing.” Facebook user Tiffani Taylor posted an image of Amy, who was attending prom at Maryville High in Tennessee, rocking her gorgeous prom dress. In the image, we see Amy smiling proudly in her gown, but the caption itself tells quite a different story.

“Arriving at the prom, she was stopped at the door. She would not be allowed in because her dress was ‘too revealing,’ Taylor wrote. “After spending some time in the restroom crying, she was told she could go in if she wore the vice principal’s tux jacket, which, mind you, did not cover her chest. She was told by a teacher repeatedly ‘Us big girls gotta cover up.’ This young girl was SHAMED for having breasts. Her excitement during this memorable time of her life turned into embarrassment at the hands of adults who are supposed to be leading her.”

The photo has been shared more than 19,000 times, and many of the commenters on the photo are just as bewildered as Taylor was as to why Amy was asked to wear a bulky jacket. “She looks STUNNING. I don’t understand who would think she needs to cover up,” one person wrote. “She is gorgeous and her dress is beautiful. How is this inappropriate??? I have seen many others much more inappropriate! This dress is classy!!” another said.

A girl who appears to have attended the prom was quick to point out the double standard, mentioning the fact that she saw dresses that were even more revealing than Amy’s at the dance. “My own dress had quite a few cutouts in the back, yet that wasn’t too much. I saw other girls with dresses lower cut and yet they weren’t called out. I was disappointed in how it was handled for sure.”
