The Throwback Reese Witherspoon Movie Our Editors Are Obsessed With (It’s Not ‘Legally Blonde’)
If there’s one Reese Witherspoon movie that has stood the test of time, it’s Pleasantville.
On the latest episode of PureWow’s Stream On podcast, co-hosts Phil Mutz and Rachel Gulmi took a moment to recognize one of Hollywood’s favorite actresses: Witherspoon. During the conversation, Gulmi discussed a throwback movie that our editors can’t get enough of. (And no, it’s not Legally Blonde.)
At the 25:30 mark above, Gulmi explained why Pleasantville is her pick for the “classic spotlight,” claiming it’s one of Reese Witherspoon’s most underrated roles.
If you recall, Pleasantville was released back in 1998. The movie (which is now streaming on Hulu) featured an all-star cast, including Tobey Maguire (David/Bud Parker), Jeff Daniels (Bill Johnson), Joan Allen (Betty Parker), William H. Macy (George Parker), J. T. Walsh (Bob “Big Bob”), Paul Walker (Skip Martin), Marley Shelton (Margaret Henderson), Giuseppe Andrews (Howard), Jenny Lewis (Christin), Marissa Ribisi (Kimmy) and—of course—Don Knotts (TV Repairman).
Listen to the full episode above to hear why Pleasantville deserves to be rewatched. In the beginning of the installment, the co-hosts highlight three shows that everyone should be watching (if they aren’t already): Peaky Blinders, I Love That For You and Queer as Folk. They also share details about Samantha’s return in And Just Like That season 2 and which I Love That for You actress deserves an Emmy nomination. (And no, it’s not Molly Shannon.)
Don’t forget to subscribe, rate and review the podcast. And as always, keep calm and Stream On.
