Tia Mowry's fans call her an 'African Queen' for wearing Ankara-print dress
Tia Mowry has launched a fashion frenzy with her new Ankara-print dress.
The 39-year-old Sister Sister star showed off the $71.99 cotton frock Monday on Instagram, posing in a photo with her actor husband, Cory Hardrict. “Cree wanted to take a picture of his parents. Nice shot!” Mowry wrote of her 6-year-old son.
Fans called the actress an “African Queen” and dubbed the look “very elegant.” Another wrote, “S/o to you for using an African designer,” and one remarked, “This is inspired by a traditional dress in Cameroon (Central Africa). We call It ‘Kaba Ngondo.’”

Ankara prints dominated the headlines last week, after the designer Stella McCartney incorporated the traditional African design in her Spring 2018 show during Paris Fashion Week. McCartney was accused of cultural appropriation, particularly since she had called the collection “a joyful exploration of British style.”
Mowry’s dress was made by ?fuur?, a company launched in 2015 by Toronto designer Tehilah Abakasanga, which offers a variety of bold African-inspired dresses and swimsuits.
In another exciting news, Mowry, who currently stars in the YouTube series Quick Fix, hinted that she and her twin sister, Tamera, who starred together on the ’90s sitcom Sister Sister, may participate in a reboot, telling Entertainment Tonight on Friday, “I will say this, we are definitely closer than ever. That’s basically all I can say. But I’m getting excited.”
She added, “I think I would want it to pick up with where our lives are now. We’re married with kids. But I definitely would want it to focus on the power of sisterhood. How wonderful and amazing that sisterhood and that relationship can be. How it helps you in whatever trial and tribulations you are in. When you have the sisterhood and that bond, that is so beautiful.”
