Tiffany Haddish Has the Best Oscar To-Do List
Nobody in Hollywood has had a better 2017 than Tiffany Haddish. Not speechless fish creatures, not the Italian peach industry - no one. She is coming into 2018 as Tinseltown's newest queen, so its apropos that she showed up at the Oscars in royal garb.
The Girls Trip star walked the red carpet in a traditional Eritrean princess gown, with a matching headpiece. It was a nod to her roots and a tribute to her late father, she told E!'s Ryan Seacrest.
"My father passed away this past year and he's from Eritrea. He said, 'One day you're going to end up at the Oscars. When you go, honor your people.' I'm wearing an Eritrean authentic princess dress; I'm proud of it."
Haddish had been estranged from her father, Tsehaye Haddish, after he and her mother separated when Tiffany was three years old. In her stand-up comedy, Haddish has frequently talked about growing up in foster care as a result.
Haddish reunited with her father near the end of his life and later travelled to Eritrea for the first time to bury his remains and connect with the culture, something she carries with her to Hollywood's biggest night.
During their red carpet chat, Seacrest asked Haddish what she was looking forward to. True to form, Haddish channeled everyone's ultimate wishlist for a night out at the Academy Awards.
"I'm looking forward to meeting Meryl Streep and asking her to be my mama. I'm looking forward to having drinks with Whoopi Goldberg. And I'm looking forward to doing the Nae Nae with everybody. And I'm definitely looking forward to presenting the Oscar."
"I read that you want to be baby Oprah," Seacrest added.
"I want her to be my auntie," Haddish quipped.
This is the dream life: being related to Oprah and Meryl, Nae Nae-ing with everybody, throwing back a cocktail with Whoopi. Add to that "spend every minute with Tiffany Haddish," and you've got the perfect night.
