Tina Lawson’s Hair Is Larger Than Life on Instagram
We’ve seen Beyoncé and Solange Knowles rock some big hair, and now we know where they get their inspiration from: their mom, Tina Lawson. The fashion designer flaunted her look, complete with a blond wig that was almost identical to the mane of another famous Tina — Tina Turner — in a video she posted to Instagram on Wednesday. In fact, we did a double-take because we honestly weren’t sure which Tina we were looking at for a moment!
In the video, she sings a spot-on rendition of the chorus to Turner’s famous ’80s hit What’s Love Got to Do With It?, confessing, “I always wanted to be Tina Turner.” She even nailed Turner’s trademark snarls.
Lawson captioned the photo, taken at her 63rd birthday celebration, “I love me some Tina Turner, even though I kinda look like Dolly Parton (who I like too) me and my friends all have on disguises , wigs for my Birthday at a fancy restaurant! We look a little crae crae. Ha ha.”

Her followers were crazy in love with the look too.
“So much fun! Mama Queen Bee! Age ain’t nothin but a number! Happy birthday,” wrote one adoring fan. “You look like you’re having FUN!!! Enjoy Tina Turner!!!,” another enthusiastic fan wrote. Another pointed out, “Funny she should say that. I’ve always thought she was the spitting image of Tina Turner. I Googled Tina Turner on yesterday and there was also. Pic of Mama Tina next to her. And, the resemblance is strong.”
Lawson deserves to have all the fun in the world on her birthday. After a highly publicized divorce in 2011 from her first husband (and the father of Beyoncé and Solange), Matthew Knowles, amid a cheating scandal, the famous mama remarried in 2015 and seems very happy with her new man, actor Richard Lawson. In fact, pics of the happy couple pop up throughout her Instagram feed.
Lawson’s birthday post comes less than a week after a (short-lived) departure from social media, following a mistake she made by “accidentally” liking a comment about Jennifer Hudson’s “horrible” singing. She posted a mea culpa on Dec. 30 in which she referenced “the evil mean people that are making this into a social media ugly thing.” She said she was “clowning around” and accidentally liked the post, adding that she has great admiration for Hudson.
We’re happy that Lawson has decided to resume her presence on Instagram, as everything from her goofball photos to the glimpses into her home life and her inspirational workout videos give us life. Keep doing you, Tina — whichever Tina you want to be.
