'Today' Stirs Up Debate About How Often People Should Shower
On July 18, the Today show kicked off a series with Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and Sheinelle Jones called "How Often Should You…," where experts weigh in on how often you should take care of certain things, from cleaning your dishwasher to changing your sheets.
For the premiere of this segment, Shop TODAY editorial director Adrianna Brach quizzed her Today colleagues with the question "How often should you shower per week?," according to dermatologists. She asked them to pick from four possible answers: A. Every day, B. 2-3 times, C. 5 times, and D. once.
Dreyer chose "five times," while Jones opted for "every day." Roker answered, "I don't care what [the dermatologists] say, I'm going to say, 'A.'" Brach chuckled and shared that they were all incorrect: "The answer is actually B, 2-3 times a week."
Jones was incredulous, remarking, "What?! There are 7 days a week!" But Roker had the most hilarious reaction, making an exaggerated puzzled face. "The consensus is two to 3 times per week, but it does depend on the person," Brach explained, interrupting herself laughing at Roker's unchanging expression. "I'm looking at Al's face, [he's like] 'What is this?'"
When Brach noted that it depends on the person and their lifestyle, the weatherman exclaimed, "Lifestyle?!" Then when the editorial director mentioned that at the end of the day, it all depends on personal preference, but Roker wasn't having it. "Not if you come in contact with other people!" he interjected.
Jones pointed out that it makes sense for dermatologists to recommend that, as excessive bathing can affect your skin health, to which Roker rolled his eyes. Clearly, he was having a moment processing that not everyone has the high hygiene standards he does.
In case his reaction didn't give it away, Roker loves showering. He revealed that he actually showers twice a day, which is more than the average person.
