'Today's Dylan Dreyer's Sad Photo of Her Son Stirs Up a Divided Debate
Dylan Dreyer unintentionally caused a heated debate over parenting styles after posting a photo of her middle child, Ollie, looking pretty upset.
What ruffled feathers wasn't the sad photo of the Today show meteorologist's son but the reason for his bad mood. As Dreyer explained in the caption of her Aug. 20 Instagram post, "Ollies world came crashing down around him when he found out his dessert privileges were tied directly to asparagus consumption."
After realizing he wasn't getting any sweet treats for not finishing his dinner, the 3-year-old crawled under his chair to sit with his emotions. "Ollie pictured here when he retreated underneath his chair to contemplate his future."
Shortly after sharing the pic, some social media users had a field day judging Dreyer's decision to withhold dessert in the comments, suggesting she was unfair for pushing a "tough" vegetable on him at such a young age.
"Oh come on, give that middle child a break. He’ll either eat asparagus when he grows up or not, who cares! ????," one top comment exclaimed. "I feel the same about peas and I’m doing fine at 66 years old!!"
"Asparagus? Ooh, that's a tough one. Don't think I learned to like it before age 30," a second admitted. "Ollie I feel your pain."
"I'm in my 60s and still won't touch/eat peas," another added. "Traumatized as a kid. Lol."
Others, however, disagreed and stood by Dreyer's decision.

"These are the cutest moments and the hardest to keep a straight face!??," one cheered.
"Little does he know in 20 short years he’ll be eating it wrapped in prosciutto with a side of fresh buffalo motts and a dash of balsamic reduction ??," someone else joked. "He’ll be alright."
Ultimately, Dreyer didn't let the naysayers get to her, later writing back: "In response to all of your comments I’ve decided that not only does he have to eat asparagus tonight (we still haven’t let him back inside…he hasn’t eaten them yet). BUT he will be having them tomorrow for breakfast soaked in milk."
In addition to Ollie, Dreyer shares two other children with husband Brian Fichera, Calvin, 6, and Rusty, who will turn 2 next month.
