Since you’re hunkering down at home, you might as well make things as easy for yourself as possible. We’re talking about the important stuff, like turning off the TV without getting up from the couch or turning on your coffee maker while snuggling in bed.

What you need is a smart plug, and we found a goodie. Right now, you can score a Kasa Smart Plug two-pack for just $19, or $26 off at Amazon. That’s a sweet 58 percent discount—and the cheapest price we’ve seen.

How it works

Simply plug the unit into a wall outlet, then plug in anything from a lamp or a TV to a coffeemaker. Connect the plug to your Wi-Fi network and use your phone to sync to the Kasa Smart app (it works with Androids and iPhones). And that’s it. Now you can control just about anything in your home with your phone.

“It’s extremely nice to use my cell phone to turn on and off my lamps,” shared a happy reviewer. “First, I hate walking into a dark room and having to find a light switch. Second, I have two small dogs who tend to get in front of me—especially in the morning. So the danger of tripping over them is alleviated with the lights on. It works flawlessly, I also have a decorative lamp up high that I can't reach and this allows me to turn it off and on without difficulty.”

There are other smart home plugs on the market, of course, like the Wemo Mini Smart Plug. But Amazon shoppers seem to prefer the Kasa Smart Plug. “Responds way faster than Wemo,” says a satisfied shopper. “Maybe one second compared to four seconds. Sometimes the Wemo lags out and fails to respond, and I have to reboot it. I've never had that problem with this.”

Hands-free happiness

You can even connect the plugs to Echo Dot to control things with your voice via Alexa. After you sync them up, just say “Hey Alexa! Turn on my TV.” Easy peasy.

“I have a half dozen of these at my home and office. I bought them to work with Alexa. I have ZERO complaints. They just work, period,” wrote a five-star reviewer. “The setup is as easy as it could possibly be. If you buy one, go ahead and buy three. Trust me, you will get addicted to having these things.”

The plugs work with Google Home Mini and Google Assistant too. “Works like a charm,” raves a shopper. “I use it with our Google Home for lights and to turn on our coffee pot and it never fails.”

Bottom line

These plugs just make your life less stressful, and who wouldn’t want that? “They had way more of an effect on my life than I expected,” says an excited shopper. “I bought these so I could control the lights in my bedroom. The main purpose was so I could turn them off without getting up. What I didn’t even think of was that I could schedule them to turn on my lights in the morning.”
