Tracee Ellis Ross Celebrates 'Legend' Diana Ross in Throwback Video
Tracee Ellis Ross is proud to be the daughter of an icon.
The 50-year-old was in a nostalgic mood, sharing clips from her mom Diana Ross' legendary 1983 New York City performance.
In one video, the former Supremes lead is captured belting out her famous cover of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," which was featured on her debut album and scored her a No. 1 single in 1970. The second clip shows the singer performing her solo hit "I'm Coming Out," wearing a sparkling purple bodysuit.
The Black-ish alum captioned the post, "There are a few moments in history that define a generation of music, popular culture & humanity. My mama @dianaross’s concert in @centralparknyc, 40 years ago today, is one of those moments ?? She is the stuff of which entertainment legends are made."
Younger's Debi Mazar remembered seeing the concert in person, commenting, "I was there!!! It was EPIC! Unforgettable!??Then the thunder and lightening came at the end. So dramatic!!!"
Vanessa Williams also had fond memories of the performance, writing, "I was at the park Tracee!!! And the rain came and we stayed to 'Reach out and touch somebody’s hand!' ??????."
Additionally, Everybody Hates Chris actress Tichina Arnold shared her recollection of catching the Central Park show, noting, "I was there. It rained and she kept singing. I was and have always been in awe. Go Lady Di!!!" she wrote.
Black Adam star Quintessa Swindell thought the performance deserves its own biopic, writing, "there really should be a live action film solely of this entire performance, it was era defining!"
