The Trader Joe’s Halloween Treat That’s Flying Off Shelves

From the brand-new Wicked Good Mini Chocolate Bars to Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups fans consistently list as a "holy grail" item, Trader Joe's candy aisle is a Halloween headquarters. The only trick is that you have to wait until October 31 to hand out the treats and, understandably, are unlikely to resist digging into a bag of something. The result? A last-minute run to Trader Joe's that's about as scary as gift shopping on Christmas Eve.

If you happen to be heading into TJ's in an attempt to knock out all of your Halloween candy shopping, there's one limited-edition Trader Joe's favorite that, apparently, is already in short (or non-existent) supply: The Spooky Bats & Cats Sour Gummy Candies.

The treats — which were spotted by @traderjoesnew – have been sending fans running to the aisles to grab a pack and understandably so. "Spooky bats and cat sour gummy candies are back. I have been patiently waiting for these," the caption read.

Fans seemed to agree with one person writing "My favorite candy of the season," while others chimed in with variations of "I’ve found everything but them!"

Those in the comment section that find this candy to be their favorite aren't alone in their Stan-dom of the candies. A Redditor looks forward to the treat all year, but can't find them anywhere.

"To hell with the rats who buy Bats and Cats candy in bulk to resell," u/bardiddly sourly wrote in the Trader Joe's subreddit. "You are the scum of society. I just want my favorite sour candy."

Talk about blunt.

If you've never heard of the Spooky Bats & Cats Sour Gummy Candies, they're a gelatin-free sour gummy candy. Unlike Sour Patch Kids, they're shaped like Halloween-ready bats and cats (as the name implies). Even the Trader Joe's website knows the deal, recommending that shoppers "Bust open a bag and enjoy them all to yourself."

Some people really don't get the hype, though.

"Are they that much better than the regular sour gummies?" asked a commenter.

"No," replied a person. "They are good, but the flavors aren’t even that great — green apple, orange and grape. I like the grape, but the other two aren’t exciting. I’m partial to flavors like strawberry, cherry, and pineapple - so this could be more of a personal preference."

Whatever your thoughts about the candies are, there seem to be a large group of people who Trader Joe's keeps in mind every season when it's time to bring them back. So, if you're still trying to get your hands on them, here's hoping you have a kind neighbor that's willing to share a bag or two with you.
