Trader Joe’s Is Stocked With Yummy St. Patrick's Day Treats Like Blarney Scones
The best part about St. Patrick's day has to be all the green treats lining the supermarket shelves. Think: Irish soda bread, green bagels, and shamrock shaped cookies. This year, Trader Joe's also has a super lucky St. Patrick's day treat for shoppers, but don't expect to take a bite out of this one.
Instagram user @traderjoesobsessed posted a few photos of her St. Patrick's day-themed shopping haul at her local store in Montrose, California. Her finds are absolutely glorious. Inside her cart you’ll spot pure Irish butter, corned beef brisket, green cabbage, Irish style pork sausages, Dubliner cheese, and the brand's iconic soda bread "Blarney Scone." However, the real emerald of her haul is the shamrock plant she fetches outside from the garden section. *Clears throat* Folks, Trader Joe's is selling shamrock plants and they're only $4.99.
Now, while I wish I could tell you that a horde of leprechauns hopped over the rainbow and hand delivered those clovers straight from Ireland to every Trader Joe's (or should I say Trader O'Joe's) locations in the country, that is not the case. These shamrock-shaped leaf plants are actually members of the Oxalis genus, which have African and South American roots. The particular crop in the photo appears to be Oxalis regnellii, which boasts three clovers. The plant also grows in purple, however, we have yet to spot a Trader Joe's shopper with an Oxalis of that hue.
While there is no Irish connection to these plants, that's not going to stop us from stocking up on festive babies. After all, plants are shown to reduce anxiety. Can’t make it to the store? You can shop shamrocks below.
