Trader Joe's Shoppers are 'Devastated' Over the Discontinuation of This Fan-Favorite Holiday Treat
Trader Joe's
During the holidays, we’ve come to expect certain treats and goodies to make their reappearance, and most of them tend to come from Trader Joe’s. The quirky retailer has long been a fan-favorite destination for mind-blowing holiday fare, from boozy macarons to that incredible truffle oil duo we hope hasn’t sold out yet. With all the festive rigmarole, there are sure to be a few products that get lost in the shuffle, and eagle-eyed TJ’s fans have noticed one much-anticipated staple missing from the retailer’s shelves.
It’s no fun when a product gets discontinued, and we’ve all had to mourn the loss of more than a few of our favorites. While there are plenty of reasons a product may not return to stores — whether it’s supply chain issues or simply just too expensive — nothing quite serves to fill the hole left after learning that your favorite just won’t be coming back. The latest treat to get the axe is a mint-flavored delicacy fans are “brokenhearted” over losing.

TJ’s superfans have continued to chronicle the chain’s holiday offerings, and this year, Dark Covered Minty Mallows are missing in action. The light and fluffy mint-flavored marshmallows enrobed in dark chocolate have been a fan-favorite for years, and some fans call them “criminally underrated.” Much to the dismay of shoppers, multiple employees have confirmed that the treat hasn’t made its way to stores. Additionally, a spokesperson for the brand released a statement to Eat This, Not That! reaffirming that the Minty Mallows will not be returning in 2023.
The shock and horror was swift as fans on the ever-popular Trader Joe’s-themed Reddit thread checked in on where they could possibly be in stock. “I’m in Delaware and I haven’t seen them. Sad cuz I’ve been looking too,” said one fan. "Noooo this is devastating!!! I’m also in TX so I hope this isn’t the case for Dallas,” cried another.

Fortunately, a few fans reported being able to snag a couple of boxes in their respective area, so all hope is not lost. ”I bought them two-ish weeks ago in Ohio,” shared one user. “My store in CO has them,” said another.
While the few lingering boxes could be potential overstock, there’s no guarantee that they’ll be around much longer. If you just can’t seem to go without your mint-flavored pillows of goodness, one shopper recommended a dupe you can find at Aldi. Although the German-based retailer’s version is dyed green and shaped differently, shoppers swear they have “the exact same taste and texture as the Minty Mallows.”
