Travis Kelce Reportedly Set to Be the Highest-Paid Tight End in NFL History

Travis Kelce has proven to be an invaluable asset to the Kansas City Chiefs. With three Super Bowl rings to his name and more than a decade with the team, Kelce has cemented his spot in Chiefs history and will be remembered in the NFL for years to come.

The Chiefs seem to recognize Kelce's value. On April 29, they confirmed on social media that Kelce signed a contract extension with the team. "We signed the greatest tight end ever to a new contract," the team captioned their post.

The exact details of the deal weren't publicly disclosed, but a source told ESPN that the contract is worth $34.25 million in total. That includes $17 million for this upcoming season and most of the rest to come in the 2025 season. It comes after Kelce signed a four-year extension with Kansas City back in 2020 to the tune of $57.25 million; prior to that, he signed a $46 million five-year deal in 2016. With this new extension, he's expected to become the highest-paid tight end in NFL history.

"Back at it again, baby!" Kelce said excitedly in a video after the news became public. "It's an honor and a pleasure and I can't wait to get after it these next two years, but no better [time] than right now."

"[I'm] getting fired up for this year," he added. "Just got out on the field with the boys, doggone, we're back at it, baby!"

"Chiefs forever," he concluded.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was thrilled about Kelce continuing his reign in Kansas City. "I told y'all I'll never let him leave!" he wrote on X. "Congrats, my guy!"

The team's general manager Brett Veach was also happy with Kelce's decision. "Hard to put in words what Travis means to this organization, this city, and he was certainly a priority to adjust his contract for us and it was something that was important for [Chiefs CEO] Clark [Hunt]. So very fitting that Travis [is] now the highest-paid tight end in these two years," Veach said, per ABC News.

It remains to be seen if Kelce can manage to grab another ring or two in the next two years.
