Tupac Shakur’s Murder Investigation Reignited as Police Execute New Search Warrant
Details surrounding the murder of legendary rapper Tupac Amaru Shakur have been muddled with confusion for decades, as his killer was never identified or apprehended. Now, there may be a renewed hope for fans, who have yearned for justice to finally be served in the long-unsolved case.
Authorities in Nevada confirmed Tuesday, July 18, that they served a search warrant this week in connection with the killing of Shakur, who was 25 years old at the time of death. The "All Eyez on Me" artist was gunned down in a fatal drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas strip on Sept. 7, 1996, succumbing to injuries six days later.
"LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation," Las Vegas police said in a statement. "We will have no further comment at this time."
A home was reportedly searched on Monday night, July 17, although no arrests were made. Nevada does not have a statute of limitations for prosecuting homicide cases.

On the day he was shot four times in the chest, Tupac had previously attended a boxing match with Suge Knight. He was in a black sedan on Las Vegas Boulevard when a white Cadillac pulled up alongside him and the driver and opened fire.
Two years earlier, the "Dear Mama" rapper had survived a separate attack, where he was robbed and shot five times at Quad Studios in NYC.
The prolific hip-hop icon was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Additionally, he was recently honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with his sister Sekyiwa Shakur giving a speech at the June 7, 2023, ceremony in Los Angeles.
