After a year-and-a-half-long hiatus, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala is back. Fashion's biggest night is known for bringing out the biggest and brightest celebrities and their most out-of-this-world ensembles, but this year's theme has proven to be lackluster for many viewers. In America: A Lexicon of Fashion was slated to honor America's impact on the fashion industry, but it raised the question: what exactly is American fashion?
