Ugh, so We're Going to Have to Wait a While for 'The Good Doctor' to Return

As fans know, season 3 of The Good Doctor has been all about exploring the personal lives and relationships of the St. Bonaventure staff, from Lim and Melendez's "forbidden" romance to Claire's complicated relationship with her late mother. And all of that building personal drama culminated in an emotionally charged winter finale on December 2, when Shaun went to visit his estranged, abusive father on his death bed.

Now that the episode is over, fans have a ton of questions about what's to come for The Good Doctor cast. However, the show is officially on its winter hiatus — and that, of course, means that there will be no new episodes until after the holidays.

This news has fans pretty heartbroken: "How can I bear a whole month without #TheGoodDoctor ????," one fan tweeted upon hearing that the show was going on break. "WHAT!!! Noooooooooo," another simply wrote.

So, when does The Good Doctor season 3 come back?

The Good Doctor will return to ABC with a new episode on Monday, January 13. And when it does, fans might finally get an answer to one of their biggest questions after the season 3 winter finale: Will Shaun break up with Carly and start a relationship with Lea?

In a trailer posted to the show's Twitter account a few days after the winter finale episode, Shaun can be seen telling Dr. Glassman that "lying in bed with [Lea] felt different than it does with Carly" before Morgan point-blank asks him if he's trying to break up with Carly in order to "get with Lea." Yikes.

Needless to say, fans will be met with all sorts of drama when The Good Doctor finally comes back from its mid-season break. In the meantime, you might want to spend the holidays recovering from the emotional rollercoaster that was the winter finale episode ... or catching season 3 re-runs on ABC, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video.
