Victoria Monét’s Daughter Hazel Is Every Toddler Out Past Their Bedtime in Cute New Pictures from the Grammys
Victoria Monét celebrated winning three Grammy Awards on Sunday night with her loved ones by her side — boyfriend John Gaines and their daughter Hazel, 2. The only problem? Little Hazel was up way past her bedtime, and the photos of her mean-mugging the camera on the red carpet are so real.
Hazel, who is the youngest person ever to be nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance alongside her mom in the track “Hollywood,” looked adorable at the event. She wore a bronze Versace dress, per AP, that matched her mom’s stunning gown. Hazel’s hair was parted down the middle with two cute bronze bows. Gaines complemented the girls in an olive tuxedo.

Unhappy Hazel
Despite being at one of the coolest star-studded events of the year, Hazel did not look happy. In one photo, she glanced over her dad’s shoulder, giving the crowd a look. Poor girl! She probably wishes she was at home in her cozy jammies with a warm cup of milk.
In other photos, while both her parents smiled for the camera, Hazel turned her head away, resting her chin on her mom’s shoulder and curling her arm inward. Nobody wants to be all dressed up and having their picture taken when they’re tired — we don’t blame Hazel at all!
Cuddlebug
Despite her grumpiness, Hazel had a super sweet moment on the red carpet too. At one point, she wrapped her arm around her dad, rested her head on his shoulder, and gave him the biggest hug ever. Such a cutie!
The day before the Grammys, the “On My Mama” singer shared some of her worries about bringing Hazel on the red carpet. “I’ll have to bribe her with lollipos and things, but hopefully she enjoys the energy that she’ll get from the photos and stuff,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “We kind of been practicing on our red carpet at home, just trying to prepare the 2-year-old for what this is.” Like every mom knows, there’s only so much you can prepare ahead of time. At the end of the day, toddlers are going to do what they want.
Following Your Dreams
Monét’s latest album, Jaguar II, was her first album released as a mother. She told Vulture that it was “a sacrifice” to do this. “It’s really been a sacrifice, because every time I was working on it, I was away from my daughter, which made me feel like when I was with her everything shut off. I’m really not trying to multitask.”
She continued, “I wanted to teach her things. I know that when she grows up she’ll appreciate this, because I wanted to provide a life for her that was different from mine and different from my mom’s. I just wanted to create a world where she has to hear less ‘no’s.’ If she wants to go to Europe, it’s like, okay, let’s go!” Sounds amazing, right?
Monét shared that she hasn’t let motherhood get in the way of following her dreams. “I’m also still pursuing what I dreamed of before she existed,” she said. “I’m showing her it doesn’t matter what comes into your life, if you have something that you want to do and you believe in it, you make the sacrifices.”
