Video shows man harassing black neighbor he doesn't believe lives in the building
A video posted Thursday on Twitter shows a white man harassing his black neighbor because he doesn’t believe he lives in the apartment complex.
“What are you doing in my building?” the white man asks. “You don’t live here.”
Chika Okafor, who works for the sports website Bleacher Report, posted a video of the confrontation, saying that it took place the night before. He wrote that the man in the video “interrogated” him while he was waiting for a Lyft on the first floor of his apartment building with a friend, who caught the whole exchange on video.
The arrogance is appalling but honestly, not surprising because far too many times people of color have been victims of this kind of behavior. You can watch the video of the incident here.#racialprofiling #privilege #racism #noseyneighbor #mindyourbusiness #harassment pic.twitter.com/DlnSf154h8

“You left your MAGA hat upstairs, man,” the friend filming the heated conversation tells the man in the video, referencing President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.
The white man, who says he’s lived there for 27 years, claims he’s never seen Okafor in the building. Okafor wrote on Twitter that he’s lived there for over a year. When he asks Okafor which apartment he lives in, Okafor tells him it’s none of his business.
Commenters commended Okafor for remaining calm while the man continued to yell at him, and encouraged Okafor to turn the man in to the building’s management.
“What was with him criticizing you for being calm, collected and cool. These people can’t stand that a black man can be more dignified and cooler than they will ever be,” one Twitter user commented.
“If he was truly backing down to be neighborly, he would have done neighborly things like introduce himself or extend a handshake,” another person wrote. “His intentions were very clear.”
