The ladies of The View are back with another series of strong opinions about the latest TikTok trend, debating the newest flood of internet videos from "stay-at-home girlfriends" on Thursday, March 21.
Whoopi Goldberg introduced the trend for anyone unfamiliar, explaining how there are "so-called stay-at-home girlfriends" who began opening up on social media about "living a care-free life of leisure" before they started posting "warnings" about the potential consequences of a breakup, with some claiming to be left "without a home, a job, or money" after splitting from their supportive significant others.
"Why did they think this was a good idea in the first place?" she wondered, with co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin agreeing, "It makes no sense."
"You always need to have your own money as a woman," she continued, adding that everyone needed their own "interests and aspirations," too.
When she was interrupted by Joy Behar's cell phone alarm going off unexpectedly, the other ladies ribbed on her, demanding to know, "Joy, do you need to be somewhere?"
"I need to get a job," she clapped back.

Sara Haines redirected attention back to the matter at hand, pointing out that even men need "agency [and] autonomy." Otherwise, "you are dependent on someone [and] do not stand on equal footing."
Behar jumped back in with disbelief that there are folks "still in the same position [women] were in 50 years ago," recalling a personal anecdote about her mother setting aside $50 in a hidden spot for her in case anything happened.
Today, the group argued that the "stay-at-home girlfriends" aren't doing anything to "protect themselves financially."
"My father told me, 'Never, ever depend on a man," Sunny Hostin pointed out.
But Goldberg ended the discussion by calling BS on the trend, suggesting that, "as with a lot of things that you see on Instagram and stuff," all is not as it seems. The women in question "can't be that dumb" and must "have put money aside for themselves," she said, but, unfortunately, like "a lot of things that you see on Instagram and stuff," we'll probably never know the truth for sure.
