The Space
Ahhhh yes, here we are: In Martha’s colossal, double-windowed walk-in. Peep the green velvet window seats hiding in the corner, which look like a glorious spot to sit and ponder which Manolos are the order of the day. Anchoring the space is a custom storage island/folding station topped with veiny marble nearly identical to her kitchen’s pastry counter (because continuity, people). P.S. All of the closet’s bespoke cabinetry is painted a soft gray hue called “Cashmere”—which is rather fitting.
The Details
We’d be remiss not to dive inside these bonkers built-ins, which boast private living quarters for everything from shawls to jewelry to “sparkly evening pants.” (One can never have too many—you know?). Note the meticulous, fanlike presentation (items are deliberately staggered so each is visible), as well as the round brass door pulls, which are featured throughout the entire property...because this woman doesn’t miss a nuance.
The System
Everything from hanging “fancy dresses” to sock bundles tucked away in drawers is organized by color. The only exception to this rule? The shoe wall, where pairs are grouped by style instead. Fun fact: When Martha finds shoes she likes, she buys them in several colors—a visual cohesion hack if ever there were one. Unrelated: Peek the valet bar (the gold knob to the left of the gold shoes), which pulls out so Martha can set aside her ensemble for the next day. Sigh.
The Dream
A few last details to note: the precise stacks of denim under the window seat; the wooden hangers that deliberately match the hardwoods; Empress Tang, Martha’s Persian cat who, despite the facial expression, is definitely living her best life in this closet. And of course there’s Martha in her signature white button-down and a pair of shockingly edgy jeans (#wurk). If you, like us, adore this woman—we hope you’ve found this glimpse of her dressing quarters edifying.
