If You Wannabe the Ultimate Spice Girls Fan, You Gotta Go to This London Exhibition
Nostalgic ’90s kids, it’s time to spice up your life again.
A new exhibition in London is the ultimate tribute to female friendship, ’90s pop, big shoes and, of course, girl power (zig-a-zig-ahhhh).
“SpiceUp: An Exhibition About The Spice Girls” is making its debut in the capital city before going on tour, starting in Manchester in late August, Lonely Planet reported.
The original idea for the exhibition began in 2016, when collector Alan Smith-Allison organized an independent exhibition in Cyprus, according to Rolling Stone. Smith-Allison provides most of the pieces for the exhibition from his personal collection, and five other collectors also contributed.
“It looked so colorful and amazing out on display, so we then decided we needed to take it to a bigger scale and go on tour with it,” Smith-Allison told Rolling Stone. The exhibition features 300 iconic costumes and 7,000 pieces of merchandise and memorabilia from the all-girl pop group that shot to superstardom in 1996 with the quintessential party song, “Wannabe.” Don’t even try to pretend you didn’t bop to this song in middle school.
There will also be events and activities for Spice Fans to totally immerse themselves into the world of Ginger, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Posh, including special concerts, vip events, historic bus tour and after parties. Fans will also be able to access the famous Spice Bus from the Spice Girls’ movie, Spice World, for the first time ever in London and Manchester.
According to the exhibition website, the bus has suffered some neglect over the years, so a restoration project backed by many supporters was launched to bring it back to its fabulous, ’90s condition.
The London exhibition will be open from July 28 to August 20 at the Business Design Centre in Islington. It will move to Manchester’s Manchester Central between August 24 to September 4. The exhibition plans to visit 12 cities around the UK in the next 18 months before touring worldwide, Rolling Stone reported.
