Watch Dr. Pimple Popper Pop the 'Yolk' of a 'Poached Egg' Cyst
In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper extracts a steatocystoma full of yolk-like fluid from a patient’s neck.
The yellow fluid extracted from the cyst is actually an overload of sebum, which is an oil that naturally moisturizes the skin and hair.
Steatocystomas are rare noncancerous cysts that grow in the skin's sebaceous glands during puberty.
Perfectly cooked eggs will simply never look the same again. In a new Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—extracts a yolky steatocystoma from a patient’s neck. Though the cyst is filled with a yellow fluid that resembles an egg yolk, the contents is actually an overload of collected skin and hair oil. Regardless, this one isn’t for the weak.
In the clip, Dr. Lee makes an incision in the skin, eventually hitting the growth and causing a yellow substance to come flowing out. It's like a grotesque waterfall of goop. Fans in the comments of the Instagram video have compared the extraction to popping the yolk of a perfectly poached egg.
Steatocystomas are noncancerous cysts that grow in the skin's sebaceous glands and contain an overload sebum, an oil that naturally moisturizes the hair and skin. Though sebum can be many different colors from green to gray to white, a yolky yellow-colored sebum is the most common.
According to a previous Dr. Lee video, steatocystomas are rare cysts that usually occur during puberty. They are commonly found on the chest, armpits, and neck, as with this patient.
