Jelly Roll and Lainey Wilson took the audience to church last night with their passionate duet of "Save Me" at the iHeartRadio Music Awards.
Although the Jelly Roll and Wilson have performed the song together live multiple times, this performance takes the cake. Both artists started the performance on a high after Wilson won Country Song of the Year for "Heart Like a Truck" and Jelly Roll won Best New Artist in both the pop and country categories.
Jelly Roll took the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles alone before introducing Wilson as "my sister" midway through the song. During their emotional duet, the performers were surrounded by candles scattered around the stage.
The duo received a standing ovation from the crowd at the iHeartRadio Music Awards and praises from fans online. "My mama always told me I had a face for radio baby," Jelly Roll exclaimed while on stage.
"I never would’ve dreamed I would be one of the voices coming through your radio, and to be the Best New Country Artist and represent country music, and the Best New Pop Artist, you know what this means to a kid like me. I was thinking about it: what does it mean when a guy like me has the opportunity to be the new pop artist of the year. It means that God will always use the least likely messenger with the biggest message every single time. You can take that to the bank, baby I love Jesus, and I love you Bunnie, my wife. Thank you for everything. My daughter, Bailee Ann, I hope you’re watching. I’m coming home, baby. We did it again!," he gushed during his acceptance speech for country and pop artist of the year.
In our book, Wilson and Jelly Roll's "Save Me" performance was the highlight of the evening, and watching them both take home well-deserved awards was just the icing on the cake! If you missed the iHeartRadio Music Awards or want to relive the excitement, you can stream the full show on Hulu now. You can also see both Lainey and Jelly Roll perform again very soon at the CMT Awards on April 7!
