Classic Blue is taking center stage in 2020, dethroning the electric Living Coral as Pantone's latest Color of the Year.
The tranquil hue of cobalt shades and late night skies represents calm, confidence and connection -- equally masculine as it is feminine, Classic Blue displays a cool level of balance. Leatrice Eiseman, the director of Pantone’s Color Institute, explains the color is a “solid and dependable hue we can always rely on. Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious, to expand our thinking, [and to] increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”
The color has been embraced on fashion runways overseas and was recently spotted on some of our favorite style stars such as Ciara and Kate Hudson. Demna Gvasalia of Balenciaga sent the royal shade down the 2020 runway in the form of oversized gowns, puffers and strong suiting, while Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen unexpectedly infused the cobalt hue into their signature collection of minimal earth tones at The Row.
Off the runway, we're ready to translate the sapphire tone into our everyday wardrobes. From affordable brands like Everlane and Anthropology, you'll find a range of accessories to athleisure and more. Ahead, shop our top picks of Pantone's Color of the Year.
