How to wear sparkle on your eyes - the grown-up way
Beauty is very subjective and despite the trends we see at fashion week or new product innovations that are forced onto our radar thanks to platforms such as Instagram, most women conjure up their own regime that best suits them.
2017 marked the year of the lipstick and the not-so-wearable trend of liquid lips- that sticky budge-proof lipstick that's impossible to get off (no, thanks). Brands like Revlon, Fenty Beauty, Kylie Jenner and Urban Decay all jumped on the matte bandwagon and brought out extensive colour ranges to allow us consumers rock a matte lip. Not your thing? Me either.
2018 however, was definitely the year that marked the revival of eyeshadow and the good news is it's here to stay for 2019. "Adding a pop of colour onto your lids is a flattering way to add colour regardless of your age," says make-up artist Ruby Hammer.
Whether it's for evening drinks with friends or a night out with your partner, here's how to wear sparkly eyeshadow the grown-up way.
Look one: Orange smokey eye
Step one: Prep your lid and coat your socket with a pale colour, working from the inner corner outwards. "It's important when wearing reds, purples or oranges on your eyes that you keep a flattering space between the lashline as otherwise it can make you look like you have a bruised eye, " advises Hammer. If you pin your base with a neutral colour, it will counteract the sharp colour and look more flattering.
Step two: Once your lid is prepped, take an eyeshadow brush and coat your lids in a flattering orange hue - Try Mac Small Eye Shadow Pro, £11 Look fantastic. "Leave corners neutral so you can diffuse your colour into a wearable finish," says Ruby.
Step three: Finish with a coral lipstick

Look two: Copper smokey eye
Step one:Using Avon Eye Impressionist 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette in £12 Twinkle and Glisten, "follow the natural shape of you socket and wrap a light gold colour around your eyes," says Hammer.
Step two: "Add definition with a darker, aubergine colour (less bold and more flattering than black) and pull out into a soft wing that just elongates your eye shape," advises Ruby.
Step three: Add lashings of mascara, Big & Extreme Mascara, £8.99 Avon to enhance your smokey look. For an evening look, add a splash of black liner on your waterline for added drama.
