Wednesday’s Child: Meet Cameron, an energetic 13-year-old with a big heart
Hundreds of kids are waiting in foster care hoping to be adopted. We at KARK are hoping to help these kids find loving homes through our Wednesday’s Child Series.
Cameron can’t express his feelings clearly like other kids, but he’s just as deserving of a special family of his own.
“Cameron is 13 years old. He does not look 13 years old; he is very, very small for his age,” adoption specialist McKayla McCarthy said.
What he lacks in size, Cameron makes up for with his big heart and amount of energy.
“You have to be fast to keep up with him. He will run, he’s a runner,” McCarthy said. “He loves going to the playground, any playground. He loves swinging; he can swing all day long.”
Wednesday’s Child: Meet Zeriah, a 15-year-old looking for a forever family
While he wants a family just like any other kid in foster care, he can’t express it like they can.
“He is autistic and nonverbal so to say he’s been dealt a pretty rough hand at life and he’s having to maneuver through those difficulties while in foster care, so its amplified,” McCarthy said.
Cameron was removed from his home in 2019 due to environmental neglect. He’s the last of his siblings remaining in the foster care system, waiting for the right family to come along.
“He requires full-time attention when he’s at home. He requires full-time attention at school,” McCarthy said.
His adoption specialist said Cameron would do best in a two-parent family, with or without children. However, what is most important is that they have patience.
“That’s the biggest thing for Cameron is he’s going to need a family that is going to be willing to put in the work,” McCarthy said.
Wednesday’s Child: Meet Katie, a decisive 11-year-old looking for her forever family
While it may not always be easy, with Cameron, it will always be worth it.
“They will get a very special boy who is extremely deserving of a family and who quite literally needs one,” McCarthy said.
Cameron also enjoys playing in the water and jumping on the trampoline.
