What's the deal with bamboo sheets, anyway?
People are raving about bamboo sheets — they’ve become super-popular lately thanks to their incredibly soft feel, lightweight fabric, and fact that they’re eco-friendly.
“Bamboo is really soft—it kind of feels like fine cashmere,” board-certified sleep medicine researcher W. Christopher Winter, MD, of Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine and author of the book The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep Is Broken and How to Fix It, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. They’re also usually hypoallergenic and antibacterial, making them great for people with allergies.
“But the biggest thing about bamboo sheets is probably the way they transmit heat and absorb moisture,” Winter says. “People who use the sheets often say that they’re very cool and comfortable. If you get hot or sweaty at night, it doesn’t tend to stick to you because of the way it wicks away moisture.”
That’s important when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. “You want something that’s cool or temperature neutral, or you risk getting sweaty and waking up during the night,” Winter says. Bamboo sheets, he says, are a great antidote to this.
