Whoa, Pinterest's Newest Feature Is *So* Much More Inclusive
Between scratching our heads at Twitter (*cough* Kanye), trying to keep up with Insta Stories and still figuring out Snapchat’s new redesign, we’re sorta overwhelmed by social media at the moment. But one company that’s quietly trying to make its user experience better: Pinterest.
Its new inclusive search feature allows users to comb through its 8 billion (!!) beauty and hair tutorials and product pins by skin tone, making it easier to find what you’re after. To use it, simply type what you’re looking for into the search bar (say, spring lipstick shades) and then select one of the four skin tones(light, medium, dark and deep) that appear beneath the search bar. Your results will be instantly filtered according to the complexion you want for your “~~Make Me Over~~” board.
While you don’t have to use the feature when you search, Pinterest is hoping the new update will make it easier for pinners to find exactly the beauty products and how-to videos they’re looking for without having to comb through results that aren’t applicable to them. A new study from the company found that a whopping 70 percent of people use the social media site to find inspiration for everyday looks and styles they want to try.
All right, break’s over. Now back to your regularly scheduled eye-shadow tutorial programming.
