Why Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Skipped the 2018 Emmys
Tonight, Saturday Night Live won best variety sketch series at the Emmys. The entire cast went up to celebrate, but Pete Davidson was not with them. This isn't because Davidson wasn't invited to the Emmys, though. He and his fiancée Ariana Grande apparently had seats; Entertainment Weekly shared a video of the seating chart earlier, where their faces are clearly labeled on two seats next to each other. But the two did choose to skip the ceremony.
“Contrary to reports, Ariana will not be attending the Emmys tonight,” Grande's team told People. “Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York.”
Grande will generally be out of the limelight for a while, they added. “Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend,” her team stated. “She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”
Grande's ex Mac Miller passed away two weeks ago, and Grande's every move on social media immediately after Miller's passing has received heightened attention. As Grande made clear in her Instagram post on Friday, she's still processing what happened. "I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore," she wrote in her post dedicated to Miller. "I really can’t wrap my head around it."
