Why Did a "Tea House For Sarah Jessica Parker" Come Up During the Nixon Cuomo Debate?
During tonight's debate between New York gubernatorial candidates Cynthia Nixon and Andrew Cuomo, the sitting governor brought up a "tea house for Sarah Jessica Parker" when the topic of friendly favors came up during the verbal bout. While Nixon seemed confused, Cuomo didn't offer up much of an explanation, Twitter stepped in to offer some insight.
Jillian Jorgensen, City Hall bureau chief for the New York Daily News, spilled the, ahem, tea.

"The Sarah Jessica Parker tea house thing is that SJP emailed Nixon with a complaint from the owner of tea shop Tea & Sympathy, which Nixon emailed on to the mayor's team," she posted in a tweet.
Back in 2014, Parker lent her support to the shop when it was in danger of closing. With rents on the rise, she and other celeb fans, including Andy Cohen, banded together to help out. That help, it seems, involved asking Nixon for some assistance.
Cuomo saw Nixon's actions as a favor to her friend, which isn't an exaggeration by any means, especially in today's political climate. But Nixon didn't seem to dwell on the idea, dismissing it entirely because forwarding an email takes no time at all.
Twitter chimed in, as well, with opinions ranging from support (SJP's Tea House for governor 2020) to questioning. Some users didn't even know what a tea house is.

The Tea House incident came after what was already a strange debate. In the days leading up to the event, the temperature of the room and how the stage would be set up came into question. Cuomo was said to prefer cold rooms and Nixon wanted the debate to take place with lecterns, not desks. It looks like both parties compromised, because there were desks and there was a debate. As for the room's ambient temperature? It's tough to tell, since things were getting so heated between the two politicos.
