Why Drew Barrymore Is Taking a Social Media Break This Summer

Drew Barrymore is taking full advantage of "summer break"—or at least, is pushing the idea to do so, away from social media.

In a recent Instagram post, the actress and talk show host announced she's stepping away from sharing platforms for the warm season, something she says she "used to do all the time," noting that it's "so healthy for the soul."

"Last carousel for the summer…" she opened the June 20 life update, which included a seemingly randomized roundup of images and memes. The cover photo, however, was a black-and-white throwback shot of a smiling young Barrymore, sitting legs-crossed in a wicker chair.

The Charlie's Angels star continued her message to fans, showing gratefulness for their support and providing more insight into her upcoming hiatus. "I want to thank everyone for making this feed such a loving place. A safe space like on the show. It’s just very humorous and kind. My two favorite things in this life," she wrote.

The Drew Barrymore Show host then explained: "I’m going to take a social media break for the summer. I used to do it all the time. And it’s so healthy for the soul. I’m going to go on some adventures. See what I find. No matter what I discover and stumble upon in this world … I do love sharing it. And I feel so lucky that we all can all be connected. Thank you to anyone who gives me space in their field."

Barrymore, whose online antics have constantly provided the internet with a wealth of viral moments over the past several months, also assured fans she'd be using her time wisely.

"I will be working on the next issue of @drewmagazine and … I’ll see you in the fall for @thedrewbarrymoreshow season 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" but not before urging, "Now go out and have the summer of your life."

In the comments, social media users were receptive to her update, dropping in to encourage her, with things like, "Even your breaks are inspiring ????," and "Enjoy your social media break ????."

Another offered this advice, in part: "I hope you have a beautiful summer with your family. Enjoy the little moments. Stop and smell the flowers along your adventures. Capture photos and be spontaneous! Live and love life to the fullest," and honestly, we're sending the same wishes Drew's way.
