Why 'Harry Potter's Miriam Margolyes Is 'Worried' About Adults Fans

Miriam Margolyes thinks the Harry Potter mischief should have been managed by now.

The actress, who played Professor Sprout in the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's book series, recently gave her unfiltered opinion on how attached some fans are to the fictional wizarding world—especially those who she believes should have grown out of it by now.

During a recent interview with New Zealand's 1News, Margolyes, 81, spoke about the hit book series and the Daniel Radcliffe-led movie adaptations when she tried to say the hype is "over" now, at least when it comes to adult Potterheads.

"Harry Potter—I worry about Harry Potter fans because they should be over that by now," Margolyes candidly stated. "It was 25 years ago, and it's for children."

She then criticized the lifelong fans still obsessed with the series, claiming "they get stuck in it."

"I do Cameos, and people say, 'We’re having a Harry Potter-themed wedding, and I think, 'Gosh, what’s their first night of fun going to be?' I can’t even think about it. No," she added.

Margolyes—who first appeared as Professor Sprout in the second film installment Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets—admitted she was "grateful" for the experience while still insisting, "it's over."

But obviously, many fans are still very much consumed with the magic. Rowling's books have sold over 500 million copies worldwide, per Scholastic.
