Why Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie and Carson Daly Were Missing From 'Today'
Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and Carson Daly’s absence from the TODAY show this week may have worried some viewers.
As of Monday, the three anchors were off the air with Craig Melvin and Kristen Welker taking over for Guthrie and Kotb.
Dylan Dreyer stepped in to do the weather for Al Roker—who welcomed his first grandchild over the weekend—while also subbing in for Carson during POP Start.
Thankfully, there’s nothing to be concerned about as The Sun reports the three anchors are just taking “some time off from work.”
It’s unclear when the dynamic duo and Daly will return from their hiatus, but the outlet hinted that they will remain off-air for the remainder of the week.
Welker also noted on Instagram earlier in the week, "It's always a treat to spend time with this crew while @savannahguthrie, @hodakotb, and @alroker enjoy the holiday week."
And it seems as though the TODAY personalities are making the most of their PTO. Case in point: Kotb gave a joyful update on the Fourth of July, as she was all smiles with her daughters, Hope and Haley, and loved ones, seemingly enjoying some summer fun in the sun.
The little getaway follows a tough 2023 for Kotb and her kids, who found themselves at the hospital several times earlier this year.
After nearly two weeks of unexplained absence from her normal seat on the show, the 58-year-old revealed in March that her three-year-old daughter, Hope, was in the “ICU for a few days and in the hospital for more than a week,” adding, “I’m so grateful she’s home."
Her return coincided with Guthrie’s, who abruptly left mid-show in February after testing positive for COVID-19.
A few weeks later, Kotb was once again absent from the show, though this time, it was for a more uplifting reason, as Guthrie announced her colleague was on vacation for spring break.
