Why Michael Strahan Was Missing From 'Good Morning America'

Since joining the show as a regular in 2019, Michael Strahan has become an integral part of Good Morning America, and his recent absence from the show didn't go unnoticed.

On Monday, August 21, the 51-year-old did not appear in the studio with his colleagues–or on the live broadcast–but it was for good reason, with Strahan revealing the real reason for his absence on social media.

According to a post shared on the former football player's Instagram page, Strahan was busy celebrating a milestone moment with his youngest daughter, Sophia.

"Dropped off the youngest of the tribe @sophialstrahan at college," the proud dad exclaimed in the caption of the recent upload. "Can’t believe how time has flown by and I’m so proud of her. I know she’s going to crush college life!! #DukeDad."

Along with the sweet caption, Strahan shared a few photos documenting the freshman college dorm move-in process from his fatherly perspective.

The first image showed the father-daughter duo posing on the pretty campus, while the second slide captured just Strahan smiling with a foam hand outfitted with the university's signage. A third image captured the two grabbing a bite to eat at a local barbecue spot in Durham, North Carolina, and a fourth depicted a quintessential college experience: shopping at Target for school supplies.

Strahan also hinted at a potential second absence, reminding his followers that Sophia has a twin sister named Isabella, who recently graduated high school and announced she'd be heading off to college as well. "I know she’s a twin so @isabellastrahan pics coming soon!" he joked.

Along with Sophia and Isabella, whom the media personality shares with ex-wife Jean Muggli, Strahan is also a proud dad to eldest daughter, Tanita, and a son, Michael Jr., with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins.
