Why Savannah Guthrie Abruptly Left the 'Today' Show
There's an important reason why Savannah Guthrie abruptly left the Today show on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
After appearing in the first half hour with Hoda Kotb, fans noticed that Guthrie was missing from the rest of the morning coverage.
Co-anchor Craig Melvin filled in for her and told viewers what happened. "Savannah had to leave early," he explained. "It's her kids' first day of school, so best of luck to Vale and Charley."
Kotb chimed in, "Yeah, happy first day!"
Guthrie isn't the only Today show mom who stepped away to take her kids on their first day of school. On Tuesday, Kotb made sure to celebrate the milestone with her daughters.
Melvin also informed viewers of the situation the day prior, noting, "Hoda, of course, had to leave a little early because it's the first day of school. But rest assured, she'll be back in plenty of time for that tomorrow." Guthrie added, "She would not miss it!"
Recently, Guthrie made sure to spend the last days of summer with her family, taking some time off. During her break, she attended the first day of the U.S. Open with her children and husband Michael Feldman.
She also was briefly absent from the NBC program while taking her daughter Vale to see Taylor Swift's Eras tour as a birthday present.
At the time, the mom wrote on Instagram, "memories for a lifetime with my beautiful girl. thank you @taylorswift for singing your heart out every single night. feeling so grateful and lucky to have seen this in person with the little girl of my wildest dreams ??."
