I Wish I Could Justify The Amazing Spider-Verse Collector’s Edition

Across the Spider-Verse scene

I, along with just about everyone else on the planet, absolutely adored the Spider-Verse movies. They’re probably the best animated superhero stories of all time, and maybe even border on being the best superhero movies of all time. In a couple months, you’ll be able to buy an incredible collector’s edition featuring both movies — and gosh, I really desperately want it.

The Spider-Verse 2-Movie Collector’s Edition includes both Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse on 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray, a 7-inch vinyl record with a few songs from Across the Spider-Verse, a bunch of comic book art cards, and a replica of Miles Morales’ sketchbook. It all comes in a very slick package, with a fancy fold-out case and everything.

I need this in my life right now.
Sony Pictures

The whole collection will set you back around $120, and man, I wish I could justify that cost. I love these movies so much — the soundtrack, the art style, the animation, it’s all phenomenal. But $120 is a lot for a couple movies and a vinyl, even for somebody who loves Spider-Man as much as I do.

Still, maybe it’s better to look at this like a high-quality collector’s item, rather than a way to watch some of my favorite movies of all time. Maybe it’ll appreciate in value, and in a decade or two when I’m out of work and down on my luck, I can sell it for millions. Okay, maybe that’s pushing it a bit, but hey, you never really know, do you?

It’s a lot more tempting for me, too, as a person living in a country where physical media is becoming less common by the day. Disney has stopped producing physical media for Australia altogether, and other publishers like Sony and Universal probably won’t be much further behind. Importing this fancy collector’s edition might be expensive, sure, but somebody’s gotta keep physical media alive somewhere, and that may as well be me.

In reality, I’ll probably spend a silly amount of money on this, open it once, and then leave it on my shelf for the rest of time. And yet, I’m still considering it.
