A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at a nightclub during a Facebook Live stream
A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at a nightclub during a Facebook Live stream while begging her assailant to stop.
Officer Jarius Daugherty, an Atlanta Police Department spokesperson, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the video “appears to show a woman being sexually assaulted” during her birthday celebration at the Opera Atlanta nightclub in Georgia on Saturday night.
According to the UK’s Metro, the victim was heard saying, “OK, OK, OK, no. Oh, lord. No, no, no” and the man said, “Shhh” and “Baby” in response. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she told police that someone had put drugs in her drink before the assault.
The Atlanta Police Department tells Yahoo Lifestyle in a statement: “Atlanta Police Department Special Victims Unit investigators remain in contact with the victim in this incident. The victim is no longer in the state of Georgia but is cooperating with investigators. Investigators have also identified the male we believe is seen in the video with her and have been in contact with him, as well. Club Opera has been cooperative and helpful to our investigators as we continue to look into this matter. We will not be releasing the male’s name at this time, nor any other details about the Department’s ongoing investigation.”
A police report sent to Yahoo Lifestyle reads that the 911 caller saw the victim being groped on her chest and “possibly being raped from behind while she was screaming, ‘No, stop.'” Officers searched the nightclub an hour after the footage was made, and in the video, saw a man “mounting” the victim from behind, while she says, “Stop, please, somebody help me.”
The woman posted a brief Facebook video, also on Monday, saying that a photo of her and a man that’s published on social media is not her assailant. “We found him,” she said. “And all I want is justice.”
The alleged victim did not return Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment.
