We Won't Be Getting Ryan Murphy's Take on the Royal Family After All
It looks like we won't be getting Ryan Murphy's take on the royal family after all. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the second season of Feud, which was set to focus on Prince Charles and Princess Diana's divorce is "no longer happening."
"As far as I know, it's not active right now," FX CEO John Landgraf told THR. "We did [have it cast] but we decided we didn't feel we had the material right and decided not to move forward with it."
He also said the news doesn't have anything to do with The Crown, the successful Netflix series about Queen Elizabeth's reign.
“I think there was a very different approach. I happen to really like The Crown," Landgraf told EW. "But it’s told from the point of view of the royal family. This is told from the point of view of somebody coming into that family a la Meghan Markle. Ultimately, we couldn’t get the material to the place we wanted.”
Back in April of 2017, when Murphy revealed the theme of season two of Feud, he said: “We are shooting I think in the late fall and I’m casting Charles and Diana," according to Deadline.
"Charles and Diana’s story literally begins with filing the divorce papers," Murphy said. "It’s about that pain of the dissolving of a fairy tale, particularly for Diana. It starts with the filing of divorce papers and takes you up until her death."
Murphy elaborated about the now-defunct series an interview with EW, saying the show would be "super juicy."
"It’s a very different kind of feud than the feud we told with Bette and Joan. It’s a love affair feud."
Harper's Bazaar previously reported Feud's second season would premiere sometime in 2018, and in March Murphy told EW that he was "still talking about" the show, indicating that it has not started shooting, and there isn't a cast or script.
"We’re still deciding it," he said at the time. "I have the new Netflix deal and I have all my shows with Fox, I don’t want to do something unless the scripts are ready and the casts are ready. I’m taking my time and just trying to get everything right."
Per TRH, "Landgraf is still optimistic that there will be a second chapter in the FX anthology," it just won't focus on the royals.
