Yes, the McBaguette From 'Emily in Paris' Is Real! Here’s How to Make One

Forget flying to Paris like Emily—here's how to DIY the McBaguette yourself!

Everyone has been binging Season 3 of Emily in Paris since it came out on Netflix on December 21, and we are so here for the eccentric fashion, social media collabs and intricate love triangles our favorite show is centered around.

Aside from the current crew of French (and American) faves, there's even a new character that has TikTok abuzz: the McBaguette. While the show makes the McBaguette out to be something new for Emily’s French marketing firm to pitch to McDonald’s, fans of both the TV show and the fast-food restaurant are wondering if this is actually a real sandwich that exists. The answer is yes! This sandwich first launched in 2012 and has been a limited-time menu item at French Mcdonald's across the country.

And even if no one really knows what's in the McBaguette, everyone still seems to be craving a bite of it, (thanks to Emily's genius marketing skills launching the Parisian sandwich). So what’s actually in the McBaguette and how do we make it if we can’t afford a plane ticket to Paris McDonald's ourselves? We have the answers.

What’s in the McBaguette?

If you ever get the chance to order one in person, or just want to know how to recreate the McBaguette at home, here are the deets. According to the McDonald's France website, the key ingredients are:

  • A traditional wheat flour baguette

  • Two ground beef steaks

  • A bed of lettuce

  • Two slices of French Emmental cheese

  • An “old fashioned mustard sauce” with Dijon mustard

McDonald’s refers to it as the “ultimate French burger” being made up of classic burger ingredients—just with a French twist to them all. Sounds pretty promising to us, but having one for yourself may be the best way to know for sure.

Since the sandwich is all over TikTok, creators have been busy making their own versions of the famous menu item so all you have to do is watch and recreate!

How to make a McBaguette

While we would all probably much prefer a trip to Paris to get the McBaguette, Emily in Paris style, that may be an unreachable goal for some of us. But, fret not, because you can make the McBaguette in the comfort of your own home, no plane tickets required. While you may have to leave the house to get the fresh ingredients, making it and eating it can all take place in your very own kitchen like TikToker @don_sido_:

To begin the construction of the McBaguette, start off by toasting your baguette. You want to heat some oil in a pan and put the baguette in there, face down on the pan so you get it nice and crunchy for the burger. While the bread is toasting, start grilling your two burger patties. Once you flip the patties over, put the Emmental cheese on the patties so they melt correctly for the sandwich. If you can’t find Emmental cheese, Gruyere or Swiss will work just as well.

While those are all cooking, start making your mustard sauce. This is where the secret kind of comes in. @don_sido makes his sauce by mixing together one tablespoon of dijon mustard, one tablespoon of mayonnaise, one teaspoon of honey and a little red onion. Instead of red onion, you can also add some lemon juice to help with acidity. Once everything is done cooking, spread the mustard sauce on the toasted baguette, lay down some lettuce and add the two patties side by side. There you have it, a homemade McBaguette to help you live out your Emily in Paris dreams.

What’s next for the McBaguette?

While the burger on a baguette sandwich has been on the McDonald’s France menu on and off for years starting in 2012 and making a reappearance in 2017 and 2021, this is the first time it’s gotten this much popularity from customers near and far. It seems the McBaguette has gotten so popular from Emily in Paris, that a whole Emily in Paris meal is the first picture on their homepage, showcasing the famous French burger in all its glory.

The meal features the McBaguette of course, a medium side such as french fries or deluxe potato wedges, a medium-size drink and, of course, two macarons (brownie and cranberry).

While this may seem like an exclusive to French Mcdonald’s customers, it doesn’t mean you can’t try your best to recreate the meal with your own potato wedge recipe and macaroons. While there’s no knowing if (and when) the McBaguette may be leaving us again, at least you know you will have the recipe forever in case you ever get a hankering for the French sammie.
