Brie Larson to return for 'Captain Marvel 2', set in the present day
Captain Marvel 2 is heading into production with Brie Larson set to return as Carol Danvers, the former pilot who becomes the most powerful of the Avengers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Megan McDonnell, who is currently one of the staff writers on Marvel spin-off series WandaVision, is set to pen the script.

There's no news yet on who will direct, but it's thought that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who co-wrote and co-directed the first film, won't be back for the second.
There will definitely be a change of scenery, however.
While the first movie was set in the 90s, this sequel will bring the action up to the present day.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the Marvel studio is seeking a female director to take on the movie, which has a potential 2022 premiere date.
The movie was a hit for Disney, one of the billion dollar-plus releases which helped propel the studio towards the most profitable year for any studio in Hollywood history.

It found Larson's Kree superhero struggling to piece together memories of where she came from, while also finding herself at the centre of a galactic conflict.
Setting up her story world, Captain Marvel then pitched up for the events of Avengers: Endgame too.
Making $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office, it was the fifth-highest grossing movie of last year.
