'Equals' Trailer: Watch Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult as Forbidden Lovers

A new trailer for the upcoming sci-fi love story Equals has arrived, providing a longer sneak peek at the romance that begins to blossom between Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult in an emotionally stunted environment where feeling any feels can lead to death.

The movie first screened last September at the Toronto Film Festival, where we called it, “an aching depiction of first love and one that makes good use of both actors’ innate emo-ness.” The trailer backs that up with a flurry of longing looks between Stewart and Hoult and a glimpse of the film’s gorgeously antiseptic cinematic aesthetic, one that calls to mind, among other previous films, last year’s Ex Machina.

Directed by Drake Doremus, whose Like Crazy was all about the agony of a love that can’t be fully expressed, Equals opens in theaters on July 15 and looks poised to add even more credibility to Stewart’s post-Twilight career choices.
