James Bond Co-Star Naomie Harris Says Daniel Craig Doesn't Really Want to Slash His Wrists

Daniel Craig’s James Bond co-star Naomie Harris is downplaying Craig’s recent comments to Time Out London, in which he told the magazine he’d “rather … slash my wrists” than make another Bond film.

Harris, who played Moneypenny opposite Craig’s secret agent in Skyfall and reprises her role in the upcoming SPECTRE, told BBC News that Craig was “just being sarcastic.”

“It was not as he intended it,” Harris said, at a promotional event for some of the technology in SPECTRE, of Craig’s extreme comments about wanting to move on from the franchise.

Craig’s “sense of humor,” Harris added, “doesn’t come across particularly well in print.”

“It’s easy to take something that someone says in passing and blow it completely out of proportion,” Harris continued. “I think that’s what’s happened here, so I don’t really believe those comments at all.”

Harris also reaffirmed Craig’s commitment to the iconic role.

“Daniel lives and breathes Bond,” she told the BBC. “He’s so dedicated to his craft and he loves playing Bond.”

Although fans have suggested casting Idris Elba as the first black Bond if Craig moves on from the role, Harris calls her co-star “the ultimate Bond” and says, “It wouldn’t be Bond without him.”

Harris is starring in a new commercial for a Sony camera and phone, in which she has a Bond-like adventure on London’s South Bank. The ad was directed by Daniel Kleinman, who designed the title sequences for Casino Royale, Skyfall and the Pierce Brosnan Bond films.
