Jimmy Kimmel Brings His Hilarious Feud With Matt Damon to the Oscars

Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 89th Academy Awards Sunday night, and he wasn’t about to let the opportunity of hosting the Oscars in front of millions of people go by without taking a few shots at his frenemy Matt Damon.

During the opening monologue, Kimmel started ripping into Damon, saying, “I’ve known Matt for a long time now. I’ve known Matt so long, when I first met Matt, I was the fat one.” Even when Kimmel was complimenting Damon for casting Casey Affleck in Manchester by the Sea instead of taking the role himself, it was a backhanded compliment. Or in this case, a back-haired compliment, as Kimmel said, “He handed an Oscar-caliber role over to his friend and made a Chinese ponytail movie instead. And that movie went on to lose $80 million.”

Later in the show, Kimmel reviewed Damon’s film We Bought a Zoo, saying things like “That’s the thing about Matt, you know? He has almost no discernible talent, but he works.” After the film review, the announcer brought out Ben Affleck and Damon by saying, “And now to present the award for Best Original Screenplay, two-time Academy Award winner Ben Affleck and guest.” And if being Ben Affleck’s plus-one wasn’t humiliating enough, Kimmel had the orchestra start playing music whenever Damon was talking. The We Bought a Zoo star stopped midsentence and said, “Am I being played off? Seriously? You can’t play me — I’m just presenting! You can’t play me off!”
