See Elle Fanning in 'The Neon Demon' Exclusive Clip: 'I Can Make Money Off Pretty'
The fashion industry is a killer in Drive director Nicholas Winding Refn’s new horror-thriller The Neon Demon, which is premiering at Cannes this week. Demon stars Elle Fanning as Jesse, a gorgeous young woman who makes her way to Los Angeles to break into modeling. Her looks prove irresistible — to both the fashion mogul who wants to make her a star (Alessandro Nivola) and the vampiric group of women she meets who are intent on consuming her youth and beauty.
In the exclusive clip above, Jesse explains how she ended up in her line of work. “I can’t sing, I can’t dance, I can’t write — no real talent,” she says. “But I’m pretty, and I can make money off pretty.” In a recent interview with Deadline, Refn talked about his great luck working with Fanning, who had to embody his dangerous Demon beauty. “She’s born with ‘It’. And it’s a very unique thing to be born with because God doesn’t throw those pieces around a lot,” he said. The Neon Demon screens at Cannes on Friday, and is one of five movies Amazon Studios has brought to the festival. It’s being released with Broad Green Pictures on June 24.
