West Virginia Division of Highways has hosted the competition for 25 years and counting. We’ve witnessed students go to college and go into engineering because of the competition, and it’s really rewarding.

The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) has sponsored the event for more than 25 years, and the contest will focus on engineering as students use real-word design principles to create their bridges. 138 teams from across West Virginia, either one student or a team of two, submitted 650 total designs for the contest in 2024. Many students who have been a part of the contest in the past are now WVDOT employees.
This competition brings out the best in West Virginia’s students. Not only the students, but parents, siblings, teachers. Everyone rallies together around the student teams and it’s something we at West Virginia Department of Transportation are proud to be part of… West Virginia Department of Transportation has careers available all over West Virginia. Not only in engineering, but whatever your skillset or career interest, there’s a place for you here.
