The beginning of 2023 often marks new resolutions for the year ahead. If you’ve ever been curious about what the most popular resolutions are, thanks to Statista, you’ll have to wonder no more. After conducting a global survey of hundreds of people, they’ve found the top resolutions for this year.
Having a resolution is only half the battle; sticking to it is the hard part. Fortunately, we’ve got tips to help make it a little bit easier to reach your goals. Here are the top eight resolutions this year, and ways to actually keep them.

1. Exercise more
Topping the list, 53% of respondents said they'd like to exercise more this year. Hey, new year, new you, right? If you're looking to break a sweat, using a treadmill is a great option. Whether you're walking, sprinting, jogging or climbing, a treadmill has you covered—all from the comfort of your own home. When it comes to treadmills we've tested, we can’t get enough of the NordicTrack Commercial 1750. It supports a wide range of speed and incline options, in addition to offering iFit classes to keep your workouts fresh and new.
If you’re looking to do a wide range of workouts and want to track your progress, consider picking up our favorite fitness tracker, the Fitbit Charge 5. This nifty device stores tons of health information like steps and heart rate, while being easy to use and comfortable, too.
2. Eat healthier
A close second in the survey, 50% of respondents have goals of eating healthier this year. Two appliances are absolute must-haves if you're looking to eat healthy: air fryers and blenders. Both will allow you to make your own food and drinks at home, allowing you to control exactly what's going into your body, unlike when you eat restaurant food. An air fryer lets you fry delicious meals without using calorie-dense oils. Our favorite is the Ninja Speedi since it fries a lot of food at once, fries quickly and is easy to use. With a blender, you can make vitamin-rich smoothies with various fruits to your heart's content. We love the Cuisinart Hurricane CBT-1500P1 which crushes ice evenly, blends smoothly and is user-friendly.
3. Lose weight
Losing weight remains a popular New Year's resolution this year, coming in third with 40% of respondents putting it on their list. Despite its popularity, it's one that is often abandoned as it takes consistent effort and discipline. Fortunately, there are several apps that can make the whole experience a bit more manageable.
Two apps we've tried at Reviewed are Noom and WeightWatchers. Both programs help you to track what you eat and help you to make healthy, informed choices while still allowing you to eat what you want. If weight loss is a goal this year, consider using an app as a tool to stay on track and remain motivated without feeling the pressure. Plus, you can try free trials with both Noom and WeightWatchers to see which is right for you.

4. Save more money
Looking to spend less this year? You’re not alone. Coming in fourth on the list, saving money is a common resolution for 39% of respondents. One way to save money is to shop deals to get the best bang for your buck. This may sound a little backward, but another way to curb your spending is to buy products now that will save you money in the long run. For example, buying a cup of joe in the morning isn't particularly expensive, but it really adds up if you do it every day. Brewing your own coffee at home with our favorite budget coffee maker, the Black & Decker 12-Cup Thermal Coffee Maker, can still taste delicious and will fill your wallet over time.
If buying takeout is the culprit of your spending, save money by making meals at home with a multicooker like the Ninja Foodi. It features 14 different cooking functions, allowing you to pressure cook, air fry, sous vide and more.
5. Spend more time with friends and family
A new year presents a new opportunity to connect with friends and family. This is a goal of 37% of respondents from the survey. To do so safely amid the continued presence of COVID-19, consider bringing a mask if meeting in an area of high transmission. When it comes to masks, N95 and KN95 remain top of the line given their 95% efficacy. If you're traveling to meet up with friends, we recommend packing your things in our favorite carry-on, the Osprey Transporter Wheeled Carry-On, which boasts a retractable handle, all-terrain wheels and a lightweight build.
6. Spend less time on social media
The apps we use can take up a lot of our time without us even realizing it, so it's only natural that many people are hoping to curb their time on their phones and computers. 20% of respondents are looking to make time for other activities this year outside of screentime. Fortunately, app blockers make this task much more manageable. Here are several social media blocking apps to help lessen your phone distractions and focus on other things.
7. Reduce stress on the job
Stress is unfortunately a part of the job for many people, leading 19% of respondents to make stress reduction a resolution this year. Luckily, there are several ways to mitigate stress while working. Taking walks periodically can reduce boredom at work and prevent feeling uncomfortable from sitting for extended periods of time. Another option is, surprisingly, simply drinking water, to keep your muscles hydrated and your mind sharp. We suggest bringing the best water bottle we’ve tested, the Brita BB11 Filtering Water Bottle, to work with you. It filters out odors and keeps water cold for up to 24 hours.
If you find yourself stressed over the number of things you have to keep track of, we recommend getting a nifty planner, such as those sold by Rifle Paper Co. which allow you to plan out 17 months.
8. Reduce spending on living expenses
Spending less on living expenses is a goal of 19% of respondents this year, which is not surprising given the current high inflation and talks of a potential recession. If you’re looking to lower your energy bills, there are a few ways to go about doing this. A smart thermostat can help you save money due to its efficient heating and cooling, using sensors to adjust the temperature in certain rooms at a time, as well as adjust the temperature when you’re not home. Our favorite is the Nest Learning Thermostat as it’s efficient, intuitive to use and supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
A smart plug, such as the Wyze Plug, is another great energy-saver that works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It's simple to use, can power your devices up and down via convenient timers and is integrated with an app that tracks your energy use. You can also replace your lightbulbs and appliances with more energy-efficient options.
