The Acolyte star wasn't shocked by show's cancellation
The Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg has revealed she wasn't shocked by the show's cancellation.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Disney+ wouldn't be proceeding with a second season of the Star Wars prequel.
The show broke records for the streaming service after its first two episodes reached 11.1 million views across its first five days, but couldn't maintain a similar momentum throughout the series.
In a lengthy video posted to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday (August 28), Stenberg, who played twins Osha and Mae, explained that the "bigotry and vitriol" from certain fans left her unsurprised at the show's ending.

"I'm going to be transparent and say it's not a huge shock for me," she began. "There has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was even announced, when it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it.
"That's when we started experiencing a rampage of, I would say, hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudiced, hatred and hateful language towards us."
Stenberg went on to thank showrunner Leslye Headland for a "life changing" experience, and shared her sadness at not being able to give more content to fans.
She concluded: "I just want to let those people know out there who supported us in that way, and supported us vocally – despite and in the face of all the vitriol that we received and the kind of targeted attack, I would say, we received by the alt-right – just that you were deeply loved and appreciated.

"And it made this job all the more worthwhile for me and it made all the challenging elements of it worthwhile for me."
Unlike Stenberg, her co-star Lee Jung-jae, who played Jedi Master Sol, has recently shared his surprise at the show's cancellation, and expressed his hope of reprising his role in some capacity going forward.
The Acolyte was set approximately 100 years before the events of George Lucas's prequel trilogy, and followed respected Jedi Sol as he investigated a series of brutal crimes that damaged the reputation of the Jedi Order.
The eight-part drama also starred Charlie Barnett, Manny Jacinto, Carrie-Anne Moss, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson and Jodie Turner-Smith.
The Acolyte has its first season available to stream in full on Disney+.
